about me!

my name's court, or courtney, either is fine. i'm an illustrator/writer/paint bar instructor based out of portland, maine. i went to school for a degree in illustration, but now i'm thinking about pursuing some sort of tech job...my ultimate love will always be creating art, though--any tech money is gonna go right back into dream projects (after i pay for my own survival haha). i would really love to be able to share comics and other more extensive works for completely free digitally, and even start up an indie press to support the kind of book projects i love to see in the world. right now though, i teach people how to paint pine trees and mountains and lighthouses, haha.

part of the reason why i switched to hosting my website on neocities is to merge these two interests, art and coding. ...also to save a bit of money, LOL.

some of my favorite things/the things that inspire me:

• tv: severance, twin peaks, hannibal, succession, barry, the terror (season 1), mob psycho 100 (the best anime ever, i'll die on this hill)
• movies: the lighthouse (2019), pride and prejudice (2005), raw (2016), the green knight (2021), the evil dead (the entirety, really, but evil dead 2 (1987) is my personal favorite), crash (1996), twin peaks: fire walk with me (1992)...i could keep going on, but linking my letterboxd would probably be easier.
• music: i'll genuinely listen to about anything, but i tend to gravitate back toward a.) emo stuff (mcr, paramore, fob...i was deeply into twenty one pilots in highschool and early college, and part of that is still with me (unfortunately)), b.) 2010s indie stuff (bad suns, walk the moon, bleachers, misterwives, etc.), c.) singer-songwriter type stuff (might not be the right name for it, but: mitski, the japanese house, phoebe bridgers, hozier...yeah, idk, i didn't wanna call them "sad girl" artists but i'm not sure if singer-songwriter's the right name either), and d.) oddball stuff (i'd mainly throw orville peck and dale hollow in here...kacey musgraves' album "golden hour" is also one of my favs. who else haven't i mentioned...um...daft punk? 100 gecs? probably more i'm forgetting...)
